Licensure of Midwives

With the passage of the midwifery licensure law and its adoption into the Idaho Statutes, midwifery has become a regulated profession in Idaho and all practitioners are required to be licensed by July 1, 2010.

Idaho's midwifery law may be viewed at http://www.legislature.idaho.gov/idstat/Title54/T54CH55.htm

Licensure is administered by the Idaho Bureau of Occupational Licenses under the auspices of the State Board of Midwifery.  Information regarding licensure may be accessed at the IBOL site, www.ibol.idaho.gov.  Click on "Midwives" on the left side of the page to view current information on proposed rules, licensure, forms and the like.

The Board of Midwifery have written and published the rules as required in the law.  When the legislature reviews and adopts them, the licensure process will become available and midwives may apply.

Training & Application Process

     * documentation of successful completion of board approved MEAC accredited courses in pharmacology, the treatment of shock/IV therapy and suturing specific to midwives

     * successful completion of board approved courses in CPR and neonatal resuscitation

Any midwife who wishes to qualify for the waiver shall apply for licensure and provide the required documentation before July 1, 2010.
